
Services for the Media Collection are provided by the Government Information Services /Media/Microforms Department located in the east wing of the Library’s ground floor.
Media Collections
The Media Collection includes popular circulating collections of over 7500 films on DVD and VHS, 6000 sound recordings on CD and cassette, and data on over 2000 CD/DVD-ROMs and diskettes. The Library’s circulating collection of more than 12,000 LP sound recordings is located off site in the Library Annex. Patrons can request these LPs by completing an “Annex Request Form” linked to the catalog record for each recording.
The media collection is fully searchable through the online catalog. Use the advanced
search form to enter keywords and limit by format. The links on the left column of this page give special search tips for finding sound recordings
and DVDs or VHS through the online catalog.
Equipment
The GIS/Media/Microforms Department offers a variety of equipment for patrons.
Audio Equipment:
Patrons can use the
Sony CD Burner to transfer tracks to CD from sound recordings on LP, cassette, and CD. They can also record to audiocassette from all sound recording formats.

In addition, GIS/Media/Microforms also offers a movable 24” TV with DVD and VHS to accomodate small groups.
Circulation and Reserves
All media formats, except CD-ROMs, circulate for 7 days and can be renewed twice. All patrons may borrow a maximum of ten DVDs at one time.
CD-ROMs have the same circulation period as books: 28 days for undergrads and community patrons, 56 days for grad students, and 1 year for faculty and staff.

Faculty, staff and teaching assistants may place library media as well as personal copies of media items on reserve for class use at the GIS/Media/Microforms desk. Reserves are maintained on a semester basis, but longer terms can be set by prior arrangement. Media Reserve forms are available at the desk. Departmental staff will assist in gathering library media items, but please allow 48 hours for processing.
For rush requests, call 915-5849 before 3 pm Monday-Friday. Patrons may access items on reserve by instructor and by course through the library catalog.
